Most consumers fail to shop around enough when they look for insurance professionals. Along with that, there are a few other common pitfalls consumers tend to fall into. Insurance is an important aspect in looking after the well-being and security of your assets and providing security for your family. The idea of a fire ravaging a family home and leaving nothing to salvage is a horrific idea. Knowing that the loss is at least covered financially will help in the rebuilding. Not having that cover? Nothing will ever truly help to rebuild that kind of huge loss.  Make sure you are covered and make sure your cover is the best deal you could get. Here are some points to consider.

1.    Cover only the essentials

Insurance is an expense you have to pay each month whether you use it or not. For that reason, it is important to only cover the items that are essential. The more cover you have, the more you pay each month. When it comes to insuring your car, only insure it for people who drive it regularly. Other individuals can always be added on later.

2.    More excess..?

Surprising...but yes! Agreeing to pay more sounds counterproductive and insane, but honestly, in this case, it is a good move. You are agreeing to keep your monthly costs lower, in order to pay slightly more if you have an accident in your vehicle. For the most part, the amount you save each and every month will come out much more than the extra you have to pay in if you have an accident.

3.    Park well

Keep your car parked indoors. If you have a garage, that is the best place for the car to be. Insurers will keep your premium lower because a car parked in a garage is protected not only from theft but damage too. It will also keep your car in a better condition. Keeping your car in a garage also keeps dust, dirt and frost away. Most insurers specifically request to know whether a car will be kept indoors or not, this directly affects your monthly premium.

4.    Choose carefully

Who you put on your policy will also affect the outcomes of your premium. Insurers consider young drivers to be a liability, as they lack experience. Adding someone to your policy in the age gap that is considered a high risk will negatively affect the insurance policy for everyone. Only add young drivers if they will be driving the car regularly. Who you are directly affecting your premiums, not only based on your age. Your marital status, gender and driving record are all factors that will determine whether you are high risk or lower risk, and your monthly premium will be tailored accordingly.
