Bathroom Renovation

For a lot of us, the bathroom is a place where we really feel at peace. It is here that we can unwind, relax and perhaps even contemplate the meaning of life. It’s much more than just a showering area. So if you’re thinking of jazzing up the place, keep the following bathroom remodelling tips in mind and give the place a stylish makeover.

1.    Paint it out

While you may focus on more daunting things like redoing the plumbing and revising the bath cabinets, you can add a lot more fun to your bathroom with a new coat of paint. You may have grown accustomed to the existing colour. Nonetheless, this is a great opportunity to change the personality of this personal space.

Even if you don’t want to repaint the entire area, add a pop of colour on one of the walls. You can also paint the bathroom cabinets. It’ll be a longer process but it will help you create that perfect look.

2.    Revamp the shower area

Luxury invariably means combining style and convenience. Keep this in mind when revamping your shower area. Make it more accessible. Declutter the area by removing protruding shelves and soap dishes. Shower seats and hand-held showers are the perfect way to add more convenience to your bathroom without spending a fortune.

Make sure the hand-held showers are positioned properly for maximum utility. You should also consider adding a shower bench, as well as a curved shower rod. Investing in in-the-wall shelving is a great idea; it will give you a glamorous look that will feel much more expensive than it actually is.

3.    Use lighting and accent tiles to enhance the décor

A new bathroom isn’t exactly new without brand new lights. So put some thought into getting new lighting fixtures when you’re planning your bathroom remodelling project. Quick tip: recessed lighting over the shower is perfect for better illumination.

You should also utilize good lighting in your vanity area. For instance, you can put lighting fixtures on both sides of the mirror, ideally 35 – 40 inches apart. If you don’t have enough space, place a long fixture on top of the mirror.

Adding accent tiles to your bathroom wall is an excellent way to combine aesthetics and economics. Yes, they can be a little pricey, but you only need to add just a few of these and the end result will be spectacular.

4.    Floors are forever…

Changing the bathroom décor every couple of years is simple. Changing floors however, isn’t that easy. So if you’re remodelling your bathroom, pay attention to your floor. Your choice of flooring will depend on the style you want, the utility you need and of course what your budget can allow. Ceramic tiles continue to be a good investment; they’re durable, waterproof and stain-resistant. Certified slip-resistant is yet another quality you should have in your tiles.

Make sure not to install tiles on plywood. Moisture causes plywood to swell, ultimately breaking the tile bond. So what do you do? Mortar and screw a 0.25-inch cement backerboard on top of a level subfloor and then lay the tiles.

5.    Add some new, unique elements

Whether it’s a quick makeover or an extensive bathroom remodelling, adding some new and unique elements is always a good idea. From a heated towel rack to a bathroom radio to a custom vanity top, try to think of something you haven’t put in your bathroom till now.

Whether you’re doing it yourself or having a team of experts handle it, remember these bathroom remodelling tips. It’ll make it much easier to add fun, style, convenience and luxury to your bathroom.
