Home Maintenance

Low maintenance features for your home are a great way to save money in the long run. These features aim to mitigate cleaning, repairs and maintenance as much as possible. So, in the interest of saving you time and money, here are five features that won’t cost you a lot, but will save you thousands during the years to come.

1.    Stained roof tiles

Conventional roof tiles require regular maintenance because they are usually painted. These roof tiles are cheaper than most, but they are also light and somewhat fragile. Stained roof tiles are made from material that already possesses the colour you want. Options are fairly limited now, but more and more colours are flooding the stained roof tile market. Another great reason to purchase these tiles is their robustness—which is perfect for surviving hailstorms.

2.    Cork flooring

There are several benefits to placing cork floor panels in your home. Not only has this material proven to improve posture, but it’s a great insulator too. More importantly, it’s the kind of material that doesn’t show dirt. It looks great, is easy to clean and will last you longer than other wood flooring options. Cork flooring now comes in many different styles & designs, so you’re spoilt for choice on this one.

3.    Stainless steel

Many of your home features will include metal decorations. This can include bannisters, lights, kitchen & bathroom fittings and garden décor. Stainless steel may cost more than other subgrade metals, but the cleaning and maintenance of stainless steel is virtually non-existent. This metal does not rust and does not easily collect dirt. A simple wipe every couple of weeks is a lot cheaper and quicker than having to rustproof or paint other metals.

4.    Face-brick interiors

Face-brick isn’t only for the outside of your home. There are amazing interior face-brick designs that are modern & stylish. Even if a percentage of your interior is face-brick, you will negate the need for painting (which needs to be touched up at least every five years), as well as cleaning. In the long run, you will save thousands on this great looking feature.

Money savvy homeowners understand the long-term benefits of low maintenance features. So, the next time you deal with contractors & suppliers, be sure to insist on home improvement features that save you on cleaning, repair and maintenance costs.
