1.    Forgetting about the customer

Your sales pitch shouldn’t only be about the product you’re selling. Your customers will only buy it if you make them part of the conversation. If they’re part of the discussion it starts by giving them reasons to make a commitment to you and your product.

Draw your customer into the pitch by asking him or her questions relating to the product. Their answers will help them realise they have a need of the product. By being personal and creative you can get more people to believe in the product as much as you do.

2.    Selling a product instead of a solution

Your customers don’t purchase a product because of its amazing features. They only buy it when those features solve a problem they have. Your sales pitch must mention how the product makes life easier for the owner. Ask yourself the question ‘How does this benefit me?’ and build your pitch from there.

3.    Too little or too much pressure

An excellent salesperson can communicate the necessity of a product, without chasing people away by being too forceful. You must apply some pressure so customers start thinking about making a purchase. Then you must leave them to make the final decision without feeling bullied into it. They won’t feel the need to escape, so they’ll stay to find a solution to their problem.

4.    No preparation or confidence

Customers pick up on your level of confidence. This concerns confidence in the product as well as yourself. If you don’t believe in what you’re selling, why should the customer? Prevent this from happening by properly preparing for a sales pitch. Know your product well so you’re certain of all the benefits it offers the customer.
