Swimming Pool Maintenance

Swimming pool maintenance might seem pretty straightforward at first. Surely all we need to do is filter out the leaves and add some chlorine every now and then. However, there’s actually a lot more to it than that. In addition to this, the bigger the swimming pool, the more difficult it is to maintain. However, it won’t hurt to know a few swimming pool maintenance secrets. This will allow you to maintain your pool on your own when you have to.

1.    Cater to your pool at least 3 times a week

If you refuse to maintain your pool properly, it could end up deteriorating twice as fast. The lifespan of a pool directly correlates to the amount of maintenance it receives. If you plan on swimming in your pool for many years, be sure to look after it.

2.    Energy efficient pool pumps

Pool pumps can consume large amounts of electricity. In a nutshell, it has the potential to consume 50% of a home’s energy output. Therefore, it certainly isn’t a bad idea to invest in newer and more energy efficient models.

3.     Pool maintenance techniques can vary

There are a number of different ways to look after a pool and a lot of them can be considered credible. You should be open to switching up your pool cleaning methods all the time. Sometimes a slight change can make a huge difference.

4.     Saltwater pools don’t take care of themselves.

Many pool owners think that saltwater pools are much easier to maintain. This isn’t even slightly true. Salt water pools still need chlorine in order to maintain a good PH balance. Moreover, the water from this kind of pool is able to contaminate plants. You cannot simply drain the pool water into the garden. Saltwater also has the potential to cause metal to rust.

5.    If you don’t take care of your pool it will turn green

Most people know that a pool will turn green if it is not maintained. However, not many people know how quickly this can happen. A blue pool can go completely green in 2 days if is left unkempt. The rain has the potential to speed up this transition process as it completely changes the PH balance of the pool. It’s usually a good idea to clean the pool after a series of rain episodes. Moreover, the green is more than just a bad colour. It is caused by algae and bacteria that could be dangerous to swim in.

6.    The sun is bad for your pool water

Chlorine is responsible for keeping your pool nice and blue. However, sunlight causes chlorine to dissipate into nothing. In a matter of two days a pool can lose all of its chlorine and end up green.
