Courier Service

Courier services are one of the greatest conveniences of our time. We are graced with the option of sending parcels to people who live all over the country or across the globe. Snupit can be used to find local courier services in seconds. However, as much as the usage of couriers has increased, so has the cost of the service. Before sending any packages, it’s probably best to compare the service prices of different courier services. Even so, sometimes it’s not always best to go for the cheapest option. Rather try to use the most reliable option and avoid any complications in future. If you do happen to opt for a more expensive courier service, there are a few things you can do to try and make your parcel cheaper to deliver. The following is a list of ways to make courier costs more affordable.

1.    Choose light packaging

Most courier services use the weight of your parcel as a guideline for how expensive it will be to courier. Bearing this in mind, try to choose packaging that is as light as possible. However, many of the courier services will re-package the parcel for you. If this is the case, you might not have a say in terms of what packaging will be used. Nevertheless, it won’t hurt to ask.

2.    Make your parcel as small as possible

There are some items that can vary in size depending on how they are packaged. A parcel is often cheaper to courier if it is smaller. Therefore, if you happen to be couriering something like furniture or an appliance, try to see if the item can be dismantled first.

3.    Courier in bulk

If possible, try to courier all your items in one go. This will probably be cheaper than sending out items in drips and drabs. The reason for this is that you will only have to pay once for your delivery.  However, if you happen to be using a smaller courier business, consider speaking to the manager about a set fee. This could be possible especially if you courier things all the time on a large scale. Essentially, this would be considered a partnership between you and your courier service.

4.    Get someone to pick up your parcel

It might just be cheaper to courier your parcel to a service branch as opposed to directly to a house or office.  This could mean that the parcel travels less distance and is cheaper to courier. If possible, try to get the recipient of the parcel to fetch it. Especially if the recipient lives in a smaller town that might be out of the way.

5.    Courier necessary items

Sometimes you need to be selective with what you choose to courier. It doesn’t help to pay a courier service expense that is greater than buying a new or similar item in the delivery destination.  Make sure that your choice to courier is 100% necessary.
