Anytime you have a home improvement project, you’re going to have a mess, and usually a big one. If your home has a rubble problem and you need to get rid of it, what is the best way to do it? The answer, of course, is to hire professional rubble removal services to handle it, but if you know some of the best methods, you could save yourself a bundle on rubble removal costs.
Recycling Your Rubble
Think carefully about what kind of rubble you have – can any of it be recycled or reused, either in your own home, or in another? Usually, general household rubble can be compacted and used again as hardcore for landscaping. Items like bricks and blocks can always be used again, even if you’re not particularly fond of them. If you do choose to dispose of your rubble, make sure you do so responsibly and legally.
Got Asbestos?
If you found asbestos in your rubble, you will need to dispose of it at a licensed asbestos disposal location. You can do this yourself, but work with your local authority to make sure the removal is done properly. The best bet in any case, and especially here, is to have it professionally removed by experts who know how to handle it.
Skips, Bags, and Lorries, Oh My!
Skips are probably the most obvious way to get rid of rubble. They come in a variety of sizes, typically get dropped off and picked up for you, and can hold a pretty large amount of rubble from your site. Before you order one of these, consider how much rubble you have, and consider where the skip is going to sit while you fill it. Don’t overdo it, because not only will you be wasting money on a larger skip, you could end up with more skip than you have space for!
Skip bags are a good solution for smaller amounts of rubble, like is typically associated with DIY home projects. These can be purchased online or at a DIY warehouse shop, and can be collected once they are filled by a variety of companies. They are smaller, with the largest one being about 4.5 cubic yards and a capacity of 1.5 tonnes, so they are less versatile than an actual skip, but they tend to be less expensive, and are a bit easier to manage if you don’t have a whole lot of rubble.
The third way to remove rubble, typically only for large scale project, is a grab lorry. If your project involves a lot of waste – demolishing a building or digging out a foundation, for instance – you may consider hiring a grab lorry instead of a skip. These lorries come in several different sizes and are a must-have for loading large amounts of extremely heavy rubble.
No matter which methods you use to remove your rubble, consider hiring professionals to help you with your rubble cleanup, to ensure everyone’s safety, to make sure materials are properly disposed of, and so you can focus on your other projects.
