Tutors

While children get the knowledge and education they need, they might require additional assistance to improve their academic performance. You are probably too busy to help your kids with their studies, and hence, it is time you start searching for tutors. There is no dearth of options when it comes to tutors, regardless of the education level of your children. However, not all tutors are equal. Therefore, before selecting one, you should ask a few questions, including:

1.    Who’s the Tutor?

This is the first question you should ask if you are dealing with a tutoring company. You need to be in direct contact with the person who will be teaching your child. It is important that you and your children are comfortable with the tutor, and hence you should have a say in the selection process. Make sure you work with a tutoring service that allows you to choose a tutor.

2.    Is the Tutor Qualified?

You should absolutely check the qualifications of the tutor. The tutor should have significant experience teaching the subject at the grade level your child is on. For instance, a teacher experienced in teaching high schoolers might not be suitable for teaching younger students. Therefore, check the qualifications of all the tutors so you can make an informed decision.

3.    Is the Tutor Experienced & Reputable?

As mentioned above, the tutor you select should be experienced at teaching students on the same grade level as your child. In addition, you should check the reputation and track record of the tutor before you make a final decision. For instance, did the past students of the tutor perform better academically? Did their grades and results improve significantly? Did the students’ parents’ give them a positive review or feedback? Make sure you ask all these questions so you can have peace of mind about the tutor you select.

4.    Are There Restrictions on Location?

You need to have complete knowledge of where the tutoring sessions will take place. For instance, some tutors have their classes at an office or at a school. Knowing about the location will enable you to deal with the logistics, particularly if the commuting distance is significant. Moreover, if you are seeking an online tutor, you need to ask about the equipment you will need to ensure your child can make the most of the online sessions.

5.    How Many Students Are There Per Session?

If you are paying for private tutoring, it is important that your child gets individual attention from the tutor. However, if there are a large number of students in the session, your child might not benefit from tutoring. Of course, this is a concern only if you are opting for group tutoring, which can be more economical than individual tutoring sessions. In case you prefer group tutoring, make sure there aren’t too many students in the session.

Asking these questions will help you create a shortlist of potential tutors for your children. Put in the time and effort so you can select the right one.
