Power Tools

Power tools can be a pricey collection, and hiring can often time be the option, especially if it is for small, handy jobs at home. Then, for the regular creator of wooden objects and the mender of homes, there are essentials that should be bought and kept. What are the manliest and powerful power tools? Here they are, in no particular order.

1.    Table Saw / AKA Bench Saw

This is the quintessential item for the avid woodworker. It consists of a circular blade which protrudes into a table which is mounted above. The table is meant to provide stability for the object being cut. They can be set to sit higher or lower, depending on how deep you wish to cut into your object. It is ideal for long, straight cuts, and is also extremely effective for uses such as bevelled edges, grooves, dadoes and mitre corners. They come in different sizes and can be configured to suit the user.

2.    Power Sander

How do you create the perfect finish? With the perfect sander, of course. Ideal for use on wooden floors before they are varnished, wooden furniture that needs to be repainted or any wooden products that need to complete with a smooth, splinter-free finish. Of course, you could just opt to sand everything by hand, but sanding with some mechanised power will save you an enormous amount of time, and give you a far better quality finish at the end. Not to mention all the saw dust, or um, man-glitter you will be sprinkling!

3.    Reciprocating Saw

Using a push and pull motion, a reciprocating saw packs major power. It can tear through a solid wall, which makes it great for destroying things. Any man with an inner desire to create some demolition will enjoy setting this boy to work. It can also cut through plastic, steel pipes or sheeting, rubber, linoleum and leather, to name but a few. It is a handheld tool, truly putting the power of destruction into the palm of your hand!

4.    Circular Saw

A circular saw uses a rotating movement and an abrasive blade to cut materials. The better models come with finger-saving features like an electric brake to make the blade stop very quickly. Also great for most woodworking or carpentry work, they can cut against the grain of the wood with absolute precision, or along the grain.

5.    Lathe

This is one of the first power tools known to man. It helps us to create ornate table legs and patterns. It works by turning the wood on an axis, sanding, knurling, drilling or cutting the wood. It was known that the Egyptians had lathe machines, although these were probably not mechanised as they are today.
