After majoring in Philosophy at UCT, in the mid eighties , Mungo (Mark Hurlin Shelton) took his first steps in clowning while Backpacking Europe. In about 1987 , after encountering some amazing Street clowns at the Avignon festival, right there and then he knew what he wanted to do with his life. he met his only clown teacher in Israel in 1988, who gave him a step by step instruction to discover his inner clown. Almost entirely self taught, back in South Africa he developed his craft to include Clowning, Juggling, Magic , balloon twisting, balloon comedy. In the early nineties his received Circus Training with Keith Anderson, but trapeze and highwire acts were not for him and he preferred less dangerous clowning around on the ground, and chose instead to become a private freelance Family and Kids entertainer.
Available for parties, festivals carnivals, shopping centres, storefront promotions, schools, Corporate shows, Weddings, Barmitzvahs, baby showers, Mungo the Clown has performed for almost every conceivable kind of event and occasion.
His funny action-packed family friendly show will be enjoyed by children of all ages, and will be enjoyed by the whole family.
Some of the highlights of his career include performing at Nelson Mandela's 80th Birthday party, in the Kruger park at being hired by the family of the Vice president of Zambia to entertain at his grandaughter's Birthday party in Lusaka Zambia in 2013.
Internationally, Mungo has performed in France, Spain, Italy, Israel, Egypt, Thailand, Zambia,and Zimbabwe,
