  • How often should I replace a tarred pavement?

    A tarred area should be replaced every 15-20 years. Obviously, it depends on the condition of the tarred area and how often any vehicles drive on the tar. It’s very easy to tell if tar should be replaced. The colour of the tar will have faded and you’ll notice some oil stains. Old tar is often cracked and crumbly too. A tarred area with too many potholes should probably be replaced too.

  • Should I repair a tarred area or completely re-pave it?

    Sometimes it’s more cost-effective to repair a tarred area by targeting specific problems. If the tar is in relatively good condition, it will be worth it to repair the area and wait a few years before completely re-paving. Do not make the mistake of trying to repair the tar too often. It’s usually the same areas that need repairing each time. After 20 years, completely re-paving the area is usually the better choice.
