Dr Emmanuel Ati is a Specialist Gynaecologist Obstetrician in the KwaZulu-Natal area. After obtaining his medical degree at Walter Sisulu University of Science and Technology (WSU) in 2009, Dr Ati began as a medical intern in 2010 at Helen Joseph and Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital Complex (Johannesburg), for which he was awarded intern of the year. During his internship Dr Ati also completed a Neonatal Resuscitation Course at Coronation Hospital. After that he worked as a medical officer doing his community service year at East Griqualand and Usher Memorial Hospital in Kokstad. During this time Dr Ati was exposed to various medical emergencies, including Obstetrics and Gynaecological emergencies, which only strengthened his passion for this field.
In 2012 he was made the provincial coordinator for Junior Doctors Association of South Africa (JUDASA) and then Secretary General of Junior Doctors of South Africa (JUDASA) in 2013. It was while Dr Ati worked as a Medical Officer at Gamalakhe Community Health Centre in Port Shepstone that he completed his Master Trainer in Essential Steps in Managing Obstetric Emergencies (ESMOE).
In 2014 Dr Ati decided to pursue his passion for Obstetrics and Gynaecology and joined the Registrar programme for specialist training at King Edward VIII Teaching Hospital. Having completed his Registrarship in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, in 2018 Dr Ati finished his specialist training with the Fellowship in College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in South Africa (FCOG(SA)) and graduated with a Masters in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2018.
Since then Dr Ati has been working as a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the public sector at RK Khans Regional Hospital but has decided to open his private practice at Life Mount Edgcombe Hospital, Durban.
Dr Ati has special interest in laparoscopic or keyhole surgery and in the management of gynaecological conditions such as the removal of ovarian cysts, diagnosing and managing endometriosis, for sterilisation, for laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomies and much more.
While Dr Ati offers the full range of gynaecological and obstetric services, he is passionate about enhancing women’s health through prevention and screening.
