What is a Podiatrist?
A Podiatrist is a medical specialist trained to holistically assess, diagnose and treat conditions of the lower limb. This includes problems involving the feet, ankle, knee and hip. Our aim is to provide effective pain relief through palliative means, minor surgery or through the prescription of custom designed orthoses (externally fitted and designed apparatus that supports and protect misaligned or injured limbs). Podiatrists are also crucial members of the multidisciplinary team, who provide preventative care and management to patients with conditions such as Diabetes and Arthritis.
We are able to recognise systemic medical conditions in patients where the manifestation of the condition first occurs in the foot. Podiatrists also help to improve the mobility, independence and quality of life for their patients.
