Mehlomamba Security Services was established in 2009 when a supermarket owner became frustrated with the lack of specialised retail security guards.
He enlisted the help of someone within the organisation with security experience and together they formed the company. It started very small, just looking after one supermarket. Today we have over 260 guards looking after various Supermarkets and Hardware Stores. We have remained true to the original vision and focus strongly on our strengths which is retail security. We currently do not do alarm response, escorting or gate guarding as we feel it will detract from our core values.
The management team between them have many years of security as well as retail experience. We are very passionate and take a vested interest in our clients. We constantly assess the vulnerabilities within the stores and formulate strategies to counter them.
The reality is that the danger of massive losses is not just goods being stolen from the store but even more so, from the mismanagement of goods coming in and going out the back door within the receiving area. Errors in receiving or returns cause massive losses to a store.
We have established a stock investigation division. Their main focus is to assess stock losses within the business and thereafter trace the stock through the system and physical counts. Many errors have been identified and remedied through these efforts. In addition, we have also employed an ex-receiving manager who is very enthusiastic and thorough. His job is to analyse the methods used in receiving and stock management. He spends time in the stores and helps to ensure systems are put in place and adhered to within the receiving area, making the management of stocks and returns a lot easier.
Our guards are trained and assessed at a retail store, not in a classroom. Our camera operators are also trained in a store and do not man cameras on their own until we are sure they are ready. A camera operator is a unique person who has the ability to recognise suspicious behaviour and to understand the critical areas within the retail store.
