Janet has a National Diploma in Fine Art, Higher National Diploma in Fine Art, Diploma in Technology in Art obtained through the Port Elizabeth Technikon 1983.
Janet has paintings all over the world which includes 2 paintings in the South African Embassy in Washington. Her portraits bring life to the dead 2d dimensionality of a photograph where the personality of the person seems to come to life as Janet is a romantic painter who paints with much love as painting is a passion and her dream to paint as a professional artist. Her desire is to bring art into the homes of the ordinary people instead of the rich elect. In the play of light and shade using colour to bring out the emotion in the viewer and clever compositions, are reasonable priced.
She often uses multiple photos to create the ideal composition which is carefully thought out and explored before painting. Lucky Mthembu had his dreamed realised as he wanted 3 generations of the Mthembu men in a portrait next to the Zulu king. He came with an envelope of photographs and a newspaper clipping. His dream was realised in 2013 when he commissioned Janet to paint "The King and His Men". Many hours of researching on the internet to accurately paint the Zulu dress.
A client cam to her with a 50year old photograph as he wanted to give his parents an anniversary gift. Janet is able to paint in monochrome and using hints of colour to create a 3d effect. She often uses gold or silver paint mixed with colour.
She is also able to paint in different styles and had to paint 2 paintings for a client in Pretoria in Naive style in 2017.
