Mariet Venter graduated from Stellenbosch University and spent the following year completing her community service at Mary Moodley Memorial Clinic in Gauteng. During this time she worked closely with community members diagnosed with, and families affected by, Cerebral Palsy, Down’s Syndrome, Intellectual Disabilities, Dyslexia, Global Developmental Delays, AD(H)D, Autism and other learning difficulties.
Mariet then returned to the Western Cape and gained experience at two well established practices in Hout Bay and Rondebosch before opening her own practice in Somerset West.
Mariet has a passion for working with children ages 2 to 12 years as well as all stakeholders involved (parents, teachers and other professionals) following a holistic approach. She is completing the final leg of her post-graduate Ayres Sensory Integration® qualification and has completed DIRFloortime® modules 101 and 201, both areas of specialization allowing her the capacity to work with children with the following developmental difficulties:
- Sensory processing difficulties and disorders (see more information under ‘Sensory Integration Therapy ‘ website link)
- Fine motor delays (pencil grasp, handwriting, drawing, cutting, object manipulation)
- Midline crossing and bilateral integration delays (dominance, directionality, body skills)
- Gross motor delays (balancing, ball skills, coordination)
- Postural insecurities (endurance, pencil control, playground engagement)
- Motor planning difficulties / Dyspraxia
- Visual perceptual difficulties (reading, writing, numerical skills, memory)
- Social and emotional difficulties (low self esteem, emotional reactivity, immaturity, poor social interactions, behavioral difficulties)
- Delayed independence in activities of daily development (toileting, dressing, eating, play participation).
- Attention and concentration difficulties.
