FWJK was founded in 1953 and operated as a quantity surveying practice in East London. During the 80’s and 90’s expansion took place and a Durban, Queenstown and Umtata office were added to the group and more recently in the last five years, we have established highly successful offices in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Richards Bay. FWJK conceptualised the Co-Development at Cost development methodology at the outset of the recession in 2008 and from this date on we flourished as a practice through the pioneering of this innovative development methodology, which, for the first time offered investors the opportunity of investing in real estate on an at cost basis.

Our growth rate since 2008 has been exponential and was a logical progression of the development role we were involved in. This saw the establishment of architectural practices within FWJK’s practices in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban as well as project management practices in all of our national offices. FWJK now employs 150 graduates nationwide as well as support staff and is capable of delivering an outstanding level of professional service due to the development role that we have played in rolling out twenty five developments with a total value of R4,6 billion. These development projects have all been banked by Investec and Nedbank and FWJK enjoys the credit given to us by these banks in repaying every loan on our completed developments and perhaps more importantly, never having to ask for additional project funding.

FWJK has established a construction management division and currently we are undertaking projects for Netcare Hospital Group on this basis. We have also established a facilities management division to manage FWJK’s property portfolio which has been established through investing in each and every Co-Development project that we have undertaken. We are able to offer development services to individual property owners or on a collective group basis for multiple investors. Our success can be attributed to the emphasis we place on design efficiency in our own developments and on the elimination of wasteful design elements so often evident in property development.
