About Us
Jan and Petria Smit practice as SM!T Architects since 1992 in Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa. Our architectural oeuvre stretch from domestic architecture to commercial, religious, education and light industrial architecture (see photos). We believe that the immediate environment with its specific climate should have a direct influence on the architectural approach. The landscape is used as a laboratory for experimentation- farm sheds, materials, colours and climate. This, together with a firm believe in modern principles, resulted in an architecture we believe is appropriate for its region, yet accommodating for contemporary living.
