André Delport matriculated in 1964 at a beautiful little town, Louis Trichardt in the far northern part of South Africa and did his military training in 1965. He qualified in 1971 as a dentist at the University of Pretoria. André practiced as dentist from 1971 to 1981 in Bethal in the eastern part of South Africa. He was active in community service of this town.

In May 1981 he was appointed as lecturer in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Stellenbosch during which period he acted as temporary head of the Orthodontic Department. André started his post graduate studies in Orthodontics in 1983 and qualified in 1986. He practiced as orthodontist in Pietersburg and Secunda until 1990 and moved to Bloemfontein in 1991. Since then he has been practicing in Bloemfontein and Welkom and recently in Kimberley as well.

He is a member of the South African Dental Association, South African Society of Orthodontists, the World Fellows of Orthodontists and International member of the American Association of Orthodontists. He was elected as President of the Free State branch of the South African Dental Association for the period of 1995-1996. He was the chairman and convener of the Mini Congress for dentists in South Africa, which was held at Bloemfontein in 1996.
