If you travelling, it is important to ensure you will be getting adequate rest. This is important whether you travelling for business, or for pleasure. No trip can be enjoyed or productive. If you are exhausted, uncomfortable, or battling to get any of your basic needs met. If you are looking for the balance between luxury and budget, consider these tips to help you get the best of both worlds. Keep it real, but make sure you get what you need.

1.    Decide what your sleeping needs are

The most important need for a hotel is to have somewhere safe and secure you can get a proper nights’ sleep at. If you are travelling alone, a single bed may be just fine, and opting for a single bed may give you a smaller room too, but it will be very kind to your budget.

2.    Make sure it's safe

Location, location, location as they always say. It may be tempting to sleep at a nicer hotel in a less expensive area, but consider your needs before your wants. If you are travelling in a group, this maybe a viable option, provided you never allow yourself to be outside alone at night, or in any vulnerable situations. If you are travelling alone, it is recommended to rather go for a cheaper facility in a safer area that may be more helpful in arranging cab rides and escorting you safely outside when need be.

3.    Skip the breakfast…or not?

Some hotels may include breakfast in their price, while others may not. Generally, the hotels that provide breakfast will be more expensive, although only slightly. Before you decide to stay at the cheapest hotel and forego the establishments that include breakfast to save money, think twice, and do some basic maths. Calculate whether buying breakfast is going to be cheaper, than the difference in price between a hotel that includes breakfast, and a hotel that does not. Usually, the difference is rather minimal, whereas a breakfast will be somewhat more. Skipping breakfast will result in a more ravenous midday meal, and may end up costing you more anyway. Sometimes, a short term saving ends up carrying hidden costs, so rather take the breakfast. It’s usually buffet style which means you can save money by really filling yourself up.

4.    Skip room service

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to order in and can’t go out, rather order a takeaway from an outside food service. Hotels are very expensive, and the waiter will expect a rather handsome tip for each order that is taken and delivered. It’s also easy to accumulate a large bill very fast without realising it. Ordering from a takeaway shop requires a cash payment immediately each time, keeping your spending in check.
