Pet Grooming

There comes a time when you’ll want to take your pet to the groomers. It’s a great idea if you have an unkempt and scruffy looking pup that needs some attending to. If you’re looking for pet groomers in your area you can use Snupit to find one. Additionally, most dog owners don’t think of the small things that they can do to keep their pets better groomed. These small things can help make the grooming process much more enjoyable for the pet groomer and the dog.  Here are some tips on how to maintain your dog’s appearance before it’s time to hand them over to the groomers.

Tip 1: Get your dog used to the process

Sometimes dogs dislike certain aspects of the grooming process. A dog that has never been groomed before will often despise getting their nails cut. It’s difficult for a groomer to get their job done if the pet is constantly trying to run away. Therefore, it’s a good idea to groom your pet regularly at home. This way they’ll get used to it. It’s best to start preparing your dog for grooming when they are a puppy. Getting them used to having their paws touched is important.

Tip 2: Start the grooming process early

Grooming can take a long time, especially with a dog that doesn’t enjoy getting groomed. You’ll want to make sure that you arrive on time for your grooming appointment. That way, the groomers will have time to do a thorough and good job.

Tip 3: Brush your pet’s hair regularly

Your dog’s fur should get the same amount of maintenance as the hair on your head. The longer the fur, the higher the maintenance. A dog’s hair will become knotted if it isn’t brushed often. You don’t need to brush the fur every day, but keep it consistent.

Tip 4: Check the feet and ears of your pet

Debris tends to get stuck in, or attached to, a dog’s feet and ears. This causes great discomfort for the animal. Always remember to check these areas of your pet, otherwise debris can build up and make it difficult for the groomers to clean.

Tip 5:  Be specific about what you want

A groomer can work with dozens of dogs a day. This makes it easy for them to forget the aspects of grooming you’ve requested for your dog. Don’t just arrive and say, “I want my dog groomed.” Otherwise, they might do things you don’t want them to do such cut your dog’s luscious fur. It helps to provide the groomers with a picture of how you would like your dog to look at the end of the session.
