I have completed a Bachelors degree in Architecture at Wits University and a BScHons (Architecture) at the University of Pretoria, where I am at present an MSc Architecture candidate, expected to complete by the end of 2018. I hope to gain invaluable real-life experience through working with people that shares my passion for sustainability and efficiency.
I am proficient in several computer drawing programs such as Autocad, Revit, Sketchup, Photoshop, InDesign, Vray, Sefeira, IESve and Twinmotion, as well as Microsoft Office. I have a keen interest in sustainable architecture and its application in the urban context so as to improve lives therein, taking into account social, economic and environmental concerns, correlating with my passion for research. I am particularly interested in the integration of green architecture, specifically energy efficiency, renewable energy and passive design in its response to climate change and its potential to achieve a net zero carbon building from a South African vantage point. My current studies are centred around this theme.
Involvement in student and community organizations over the years has developed my interpersonal skills and I appreciate engaging with people across the spectrum. New people, places and possibilities and I hope to explore this notion through my career.
A part-time internship which I had undertook as an undergrad student at a community based NGO, CORC, who are involved in the informal sector development, as well as full time employment at a commercial architecture firm, I believe, has inevitably given me the advantage of experiencing and understanding work place ethics, politics, budgetary and technological constraints, the regulations, client satisfaction etc differently from perspectives at opposite ends of the building industry.
