OptiSmile principal dentist is Dr Clifford Yudelman. Dr Yudelman graduated at Wits in 1983 and went on to practice in London, UK for 4 years while taking his California Board exams. In 1986 he relocated to San Diego, California and after working in a group practice for a short time purchased a lovely family dental practice in a beach community very similar to Sea Point. He took many courses in restorative and cosmetic dentistry and in 1996 developed Breath-So-Fresh products for halitosis. his tongue cleaner was patented and his breath freshening gel with Zyclor (his own trademark name for the Zinc Chloride) was sold all over Canada and the USA.
Dr Yudelman travelled far and wide and fell in love with Australia. in 2002 he sold his practice and moved to Perth, Australia. After trying learn kite surfing he decided that dentistry was a better option for him and he started a practice in a small shopping centre in Nedlands. He became and avid road cyclist and in 2014 completed The 3 Peak Challenge a gruelling one day race that covers 250 KM and over 5000 meters of vertical climbing. It took 11 hours of non-stop pedalling.
A month later he successfully completed another 250 KM race called The 3 Dams Challenge.
Dr Yudelman’s family live in South Africa and after returning 4 times between September 2013 and May 2014 he made up his mind to return to his first love, family and country of birth.
In November 2014 he sold his successful 10 year old Perth practice and moved back to South Africa permanently.
After looking for premises he found the perfect location for a practice in the Point Mall. Three ocean facing chairs with coastal views to Robben Island and beyond. After working with 4 different designers to get the relaxing peaceful look and feel he spent 7 months building the dream practice.
