What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

Psychologists are health professionals that use “talk therapy” as a means of helping people. Once that’s been completed, they’ll need to complete practical training and register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. Contrastingly, psychiatrists have completed a medical degree and further training related to the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. Psychiatrists in Hammanskraal specialise in the medical treatment of mental illness and they are authorised to prescribe medication. Some psychiatrists combine medication with therapy.
