About Us

Our main area of expertise is in offering training and support in the latest research findings in reading instruction and bridging those findings into the classroom situation. We also provide progress monitoring and assessment to ensure that children are improving in reading fluently with accuracy and comprehension. We believe that the teacher is the best method and wish to empower teachers with the knowledge and skills from the best of up-to-date reading research. We also wish to equip learners with the critical skills of reading and learning. We offer reading instruction strategies and programmes that have been developed, tried and tested in South African classrooms.

What training and/or membership affiliations do you have that relates to your work?

PhD in Life Sciences, MEd in Learner Support specialising in reading, PGCE in teaching and over 10 years experience with individual and classroom intervention and instruction.

Describe a recent project that you have completed.

Implementing reading instruction in a High School led to a measurable improvement in reading accuracy and comprehension which translated into a measurable improvement in academic achievement. We found that in this school a 1 year improvement in reading comprehension was related to a 10% improvement in academics on average. We have achieved similar improvements in the lower grades, and gains in reading ability are still evident when the children were tested 5 years later.

We do not offer a quick fix and do not wish to make unjustified and exaggerated claims. Children and schools have different needs profiles and challenges. When the programme is used as it is designed to be used and when our advice is followed, we have consistently seen a marked improvement.
