The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is an independent statutory body that is accountable to Parliament and the President.
It was established by the President, conducts investigations at his request, and reports to him on the outcomes. It receives its budget through the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.
The SIU aligns itself with two of government’s outcomes, i.e. Outcome 3, (South Africans are and feel safe), and Outcome 12, (Efficient, effective and development oriented state). It has defined its Logic Model to align the Unit to the achievement of these outcomes. The approach is formed on the basis of an outcomes based management approach which sees departments and state institutions committing to governments goals and objectives.
