I am a certified addictions counsellor through ACCSA and a registered social worker with the SACSSP. I have recently graduated with a BSW Hons is Social Work through UNISA and am currently in the process of receiving my accreditation with the regular bodies. My aim is to help those that suffer with the disease of addiction by helping them to understand their behaviour that leads to the use of substances and developing an individualised treatment plan for that client.
I focus on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy that is very relevant for addiction treatment because it is behaviourally based, and most substances abusers need a practical approach to dealing with their abuse. It has been shown that Rogerian principles of unconditional positive regard is helpful in creating the kind of relationship with substance abusers to begin to make positive changes in their life circumstances. The Psychodynamic model is used to understand the factors and dynamics in the addicts’ history which may indicate the reasons and causes for their current addiction. The core element of any personal behaviour change is based on the relationship between the client and the personal counsellor and their approach.
Together with the above-mentioned therapeutic approaches, I introduce the client to a 12-step fellowship and programme, that will assist the client with reintegrating into life and help the client to learn to cope with situations as they arise. I also assist with family support and counselling as well as referrals where necessary to treatment facilities or halfway houses. Intervention services to assist the family with an addict in denial can also be offered.

• 12 -18-week outpatient programmes which includes 2 sessions a week for the first 4 weeks, followed by one session a week. Sessions focus on workshops, exercise sheets and individual counselling sessions. Random drug tests can be included at an additional cost.
