Dr G Bekker is a Private Social Worker with 25 Years of experience in the field of children and family care.
Dr Bekker received her Doctor Diaconalagia in Play Therapy in 2004 with a view to a treatment program for the emotionally abused child. The therapeutic aspect of her practice is to work safely and effectively with children within the framework of the Children's Act (38 of 2005) and the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. According to the legislation, the child's voice must be determined regarding any decisions that affect them. Dr Bekker specializes in raising the child's opinion and view in contact and care matters as well as in divorce, where the contact and needs of the child must be determined in the preparation of parenting plans.
Dr Bekker also has specialised training in Play Therapy with the emotionally abused children. Some of these children are psychologically and emotionally damaged which severely impede their normal functioning. The therapeutic process takes place through the Gestalt approach, taking into consideration the entire environment of the child.
Play Therapy is often used as an instrument of assessment. She facilitates the smaller child with game techniques (play houses, pets, sandbox, dolls, drawing, music, etc.) to determine the cause of the disturbed behavior or unspoken needs. The objects and patterns of the game as well as the willingness to interact with the therapist can be used to understand the underlying meaning for needs, wishes and behaviors inside and outside the session.
Dr Bekker is currently also a Nationally Accredited Admissions Social Worker and currently handles disclosure appointments in the Limpopo Province.
Practises also in Louise Trichardt and Polokwane.
