About Us

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic is a drug-free, hands-on approach to healthcare that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment.

How can chiropractic help you?

Doctors of chiropractic (chiropractors) have broad diagnostic skills and seek to reduce pain and improve functionality and recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, ergonomics as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling. Chiropractors readily refer patients to appropriate health care providers when chiropractic care is not suitable for the patient’s condition, or the condition warrants co-management in conjunction with other health care professionals.
The most common therapeutic procedure performed by chiropractors is known as the “chiropractic adjustment”. The adjustment is performed by hand, in which a controlled minimal, rapid force applied to a joint. The purpose of the adjustment is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into the joints that have become restricted in their movement. This restricted movement may be as a result of tissue injury. Tissue injury may be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses such as repetitive stresses such as sitting in an awkward position with poor posture for an extended period of time. In either case, the injured tissue undergoes physical and chemical changes. This then causes inflammation, pain, and diminished functionality for the patient. An adjustment of the affected joint restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing the tissues to heal.

A chiropractor will also utilise other modalities to treat conditions. These modalities include but are not limited to;
• Thermotherapy
• Electromodalities
• Dry needling
• Strapping
• Massage
• Ischaemic compression
