Established in 2011, the Livewell Group is pioneering dementia and Alzheimer’s care for good. The brainchild of company CEO and founder, Jimmy Hanekom, the Group aims to address the need for a new approach to dementia care and to set the benchmark for specialised care both locally and globally.
Fuelled by a strong market need and a genuine concern for the emotional and physical well-being of everyone affected by dementia, the Group is pioneering dementia care in three key areas: in permanent residential care within purpose-designed luxury Livewell Villages, customised care and support services for those living at home via Livewell@Home, and by means of specialised dementia care training at the Livewell Academy. All of which is supported by an Innovations team, dedicated to developing products and services that further support those living with dementia and Alzheimer’s needs.

Despite initial misgivings from Jimmy Hanekom’s peers in the property-development industry, this privately held company has expanded to have a national presence (in Somerset West – near Cape Town – and Bryanston, Johannesburg), in four short years. External bodies have acknowledged Livewell’s efforts too. In 2015, Livewell Village Somerset West (previously known as Livewell Suites), received the African Achiever’s Award, recognising it as an organisation making a significant difference in Africa. Jimmy Hanekom was a finalist in the Top Performing Entrepreneur of 2013 category, while Livewell was named a finalist in the category for Fast Growing SMME in South Africa’s esteemed National Business Awards. And Livewell Suites has been named the Best International Retirement Development, in the esteemed 2013 International Property Awards. This victory followed shortly after it took top honours in the African segment of the competition as Best Retirement Development Africa and South Africa – as well as in the category Best Interior Design Apartment Africa and South Africa.
