The Arty Tots programme has been designed to focus on building self-esteem, improve self-awareness and self-expression through various activities such as Sensory Play.
Toddlers love art and we encourage the natural creativity that already exists. Whether they are scribbling on the walls, playing with dough / clay, painting, coloring in or playing with shaving cream it all aids in the development of hand control and coordination.
Toddlers have growing hand control and coordination. This is developed through drawing with paint, crayons and chalk. Supervision is needed so that tots understand the right place of drawing.
Young toddlers use walls and sheets and floors and other surfaces if they are not given guidance. Toddlers love to scribble and their art does not look like much at this stage. Using muscles (fine motor activities) and discovering how this feels (sensory play) is what counts.
A typical Arty Tots class will consist of the following:
Sensory play: we focus on all 5 senses to create awareness and to develop sensory integration.
Break – Calm down time with a short story, nursery rhyme or music.
Fine motor skills development involves the small muscles of the body that enable us to write, grasp small objects and fasten our clothing. They involve strength, dexterity and fine motor control. These skills are important in school activities and life in general. Weakness in fine motor skills can affect as child’s learning abilities.
Art activity or project in accordance with the theme to tap into the creative spirit, developing imagination and allowing them to express themselves with no pressure or expectations.
We work closely with Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists and Play Therapists to keep up to speed with the latest on toddler development.
Arty Tots can be beneficial to children with ADHD, Autism, Learning Difficulties as well as Sensory Play Delay (SPD).
Our Workshops provide a creative and nurturing environment where a variety of art and creative activities are offered and getting dirty is part of the fun!
Age groups: 12 months – 4 years. We also offer holiday and special occasion classes like Valentine’s Day, Easter and Christmas classes for 5 -8 year olds.
