Sandra Graduated with her Masters in clinical psychology in 2004 from the University of Pretoria.
She has worked at Sterkfontein Psychiatric hospital for 1 year in the Male ward and the Forensic unit where she was part of the multi-disciplinary team which dealt with assessing and planning of patient's treatment. The team included social workers, nurses, psychiatrists and a psychologist. Sandra conducted individual and group therapy as well as working with the families to allow for better integration once the patients were released. Due to this work experience Sandra has extensive knowledge of working with major psychopathologies.
Sandra also worked for one year in Johannesburg Prison, where she assisted with parole assessment, anger management groups, sexual offenders groups and individual therapy. In addition, Sandra also worked in the female Unit (Adult and Juvenile), Awaiting trial, Male unit (Adult and Juvenile), and was involved in all areas of psychological wellbeing.
Thereafter, Sandra went into private practice, working with individuals, couples and adolescents.
Sandra's main area of interest is couples therapy. She especially enjoys using Imago Relationship Therapy which she feels is the most effective technique to use with couples. She trained under Rebecca Sears from the USA in 2007. Imago Relationship Therapy aims to bring couples together when the connection is no longer there, using effective, conscious and authentic communication. Couples work is her true passion and working together with them in order to develop a clear understanding of each other's needs and wants.
In Sandra's individual work she uses a number of different paradigms. The focus is on the individual and the path that they wish to be on. Sandra assists the client to understand why certain behaviours, actions or thoughts are prevalent in their life and the most effective way to shift them.
Post-Natal Depression is another area that Sandra feels very strongly about. Having suffered with it after her first child she feels a strong draw to assist women to feel more confident and secure in their new roles as mothers.
On a personal level, Sandra is a married mum of three small children.
The Sandton Psychology Centre was started in 2009 with an exclusive focus on diagnosing, treating and preventing psychological issues in children,
teenagers and adults. In 2013 we were fortunate to welcome a psychiatrist to our team of psychologists, enabling our clients to gain easy access to an important aspect of the treatment and management of psychiatric disorders. We are now very pleased to be able to provide our clients with an even more holistic approach to the prevention, diagnosis, management and treatment of a wide range of psychological and non psychological disorders with the opening of a new Centre, The Sandton Psychology and Wellness Centre. At The Sandton Psychology and Wellness centre, clients will have access to a range of health professionals, including Psychologists, a Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapists, a Homeopath, a Chiropractor, a Life Coach, and an Audiologist. Our varied and dynamic team of health professionals will work alongside each other, offering highly convenient and accessible support for a variety of health issues
