Since the Industrial Revolution, a hierarchical, mechanistic model is followed to manage organisations. An organisation viewed as a machine made up of individual, functional parts. The people of an organisation have been seen as parts within this machine. It is therefore hardly surprising that with this view people see themselves as replaceable parts within this mechanistic view. The net result being low employee engagement on many levels.
A shared Purpose and a well-defined Organisational Context provides a guiding light for the people within an organisation and their personal lives to converge towards, bringing with them their unique contributions. The convergence of this diversity helping build a more resilient, adaptive, and creative organisation and life view. The whole now being greater than the sum of its parts.
We currently find ourselves in uncertain times. A global situation that none of us are at all familiar with. This uncertainty coupled with media platforms fueling an already fearful populace with layers of fear-based narratives. This fear based narrative undermining personal agency within the individual resulting in the individual looking outside of themselves, be this towards their management or governments, for the solutions to remedy their personal situations at home and in the workplace. To deal with these problems and inherent opportunity’s within, calls for a different approach to past management and thinking of yesteryear. This different approach to create the necessary fertile conditions within organisations for its people to thrive again. A living system approach to coaching allowing individuals to recognise their own value. Thus, taking responsibility in discovering their uniqueness and thereby the role and part they play within the organisation or the world around them.
